Description

This research project, led by Cégep de Chicoutimi, contributed to the development and testing of a new methodology for the unused wood substance (UWS) survey. Its goal was to improve the effectiveness and economic efficiency of traditional UWS surveys through a technological solution. Drones and recent developments in photogrammetry (Structure-from-Motion, SfM) can offer inexpensive, accurate, and rapid solutions for field operations. These technological advances can also significantly reduce the sources of risk to forestry workers’ health and safety. A low-cost drone was used to test the most affordable method possible for this study.
